GAME
THE CHESS GAME with
living persons
The story of the Chess Game dates back to 1454 when Marostica
belonged to the Venetian Republic
It happened that two noblemen, Rinaldo D'Angarano and Vieri
da Vallonara, fell in love with the beautiful Lionora, daughter
of Taddeo Parisio, who was the Lord of the Marostica's castle…….
A note of unique courtesy pervades everything; it inspires
the whole re-evocation of this ancient story which. The
Human Chess Game represent the most spectacular moment inside
this historical/traditional performance: armed men, archers
and halberdiers, fool-soldiers and knights, noble court,
the master of arms, falconers, pageboys, maidens, standard
holders, musicians, farmers and their wives; the Whites
and the Blacks with their kings and queens, rooks and knights,
bishops and pawns and the two suitors who decide the moves.
This event is repeated today just like the first time, in
a framework of sumptuous costumes, multi-colour banners,
martial parades, exquisite elegance. from the darkness of
remote times, still live today as a miracle of fantasy.

is organized in the beautiful square of the city.
The Event is becoming always more important.

The Biennale
Dreams
and Conflicts - The Dictatorship of the Viewer
The Biennale di Venezia presents the 50th International Art
Exhibition: an "exhibition of exhibitions".
It will be composed of different projects (like islands in
an archipelago), each with its own identity and autonomy.
The viewer-reader of this map will thus be able to build upon
each of these singular contemporary artistic experiences.
Indeed, there will be no beginning and no end but various
locales with different visions and concepts used as tools
to tackle a contemporaneous voyage.
Once again, the 64 national pavilions in the Biennale di Venezia
aim to reveal a cross-section of the world's realities, which
will be used as an open map by the viewer-reader enabling
for the most vivid experiences in Venice.
